Additional Recreational Activites at Silver Star

Alpine skiing and snowboarding, and cross country skiing are the main recreational activities at Silver Star mountain; however, other recreational opportunities include snowshoeing (both at Silver Star Resort and at Sovereign Lake Nordic Center) , snowmobiling, sleigh rides, skating, tubing, and tobogganing (at Sovereign Lake Nordic Center) during the ski season, and in summer, activities include mountain biking, paintball, and hiking.

In the mid 1990's, the resort also offered rollerblading on several kilometres of paved trail winding through the forest, but these paved paths have fallen into disrepair, and are generally too rough to rollerblade on. In several places, large sections of the path are missing.  Some of the rollerblade path was removed when the Silver Woods chair was installed. The planned development south of the Knoll subdivision will likely eliminate the entire rollerblade trail. To view a 1996 Silver Star Mountain Resort flyer, click the icon below.

You may want to right-click on the article to orient the page correctly. Notice that the article mentions horseback riding, which is no longer offered at the resort. The reasons for this are unclear, but perhaps this activity is not compatible with mountain biking.

Horseback Riding was offered as a summer activity at Silver Star in the 1990's.

In the mid-1990's, a new championship, 18 hole golf course was proposed, with an opening date of June 2000. 510 hectares was deleted from the southeast corner of the park for this golf course, yet it was never built. Currently, it appears that this land will only be used for sewage effluent irrigation. Click on the Golf Course Menu Tab to learn more about the golf course fiasco.
