Sewage Treatment

Up until the early 1980's, there were no commercial accommodations on Silver Star Mountain. Although accommodations had been proposed many times over the years for the ski area, these plans were typically rejected due to concerns about impacts to the community watersheds below the ski area.

In the late 1970's and early 1980's, competition from ski resorts such as Big White and Whistler, which offered accommodations near their lifts, left Silver Star with a declining share of the destination skier market. Thus, in 1982, at the request of Silver Star Sports, the village area was deleted from Silver Star Provincial Park, in order to allow construction of hotels and condominiums. It was at this time that the sewage lagoons were constructed. With the exception of minor upgrades over the years, the same lagoon-based system is still used at Silver Star.
